After the Beastie Boys album of the same name, original cover painting by David Gambale.
This painting started life as something very different. Intended to be an abstraction of The Pogues‘ Peace and Love album cover, the original concept was documented then abandoned. The paint was dissolved and scraped, and the canvas was completely washed, repositioned and re-painted. The result is one of the collective’s favorite paintings from this series. At once reminiscent of Robert Rauschenberg‘s Erased de Kooning Drawing, Panik Collective unintentionally followed suit in both method and aesthetic.
